Haw River Intersection to Become 4-Way Stop

Haw River Intersection to Become 4-Way Stop

The intersection at Jimmie Kerr Road and Cherry Lane Road in Haw River will be turned into a four-way stop Tuesday, according to officials.

The right lane of Jimmie Kerr Road will be closed in both directions between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for workers to install additional signs and pavement markings.

N.C. Department of Transportation officials said the decision came after an investigation determined that traffic volumes, crashes and other factors warranted more stop signs.

The intersection is currently a two-way stop.

Burlington May Receive Another Interstate Exit

Burlington May Receive Another Interstate Exit

A Tucker Street feasibility study currently being conducted could determine if Burlington could get another interchange along Interstate 40/85, according to the Burlington Times News.

The Burlington-Graham Metropolitan Planning Organization takes a look at potential highway projects in Alamance County every two years and makes a ranked list for the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Construction of an interchange at Tucker Street and I-40/85 made the list this year, prompting the study, the paper reported.

It will examine traffic flow on the interstate and Tucker Street, how the interchange would impact other roads, the impact it would have on surrounding properties, and if it could meet federal highway guidelines, the paper reported.

The interchange is not guaranteed and no timetable has been set. The study is funded by the MPO and DOT, with a total cost of $39,993.90, the paper reported.

Happy Easter: NCDOT delays road construction

The N.C. Department of Transportation is taking steps to help motorists save both time and money this Easter by suspending most road construction activities on major routes across the state. By avoiding traffic delays, motorists can reach their destinations more quickly while also cutting down on fuel consumption and costs.

Most construction projects along interstate, N.C. and U.S. routes will be suspended beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, until 9:00 a.m., Monday, April 25, with two exceptions:

  • U.S. 17 in Windsor (Bertie County) is reduced to one lane on the Cashie River Bridge due to construction. Traffic is controlled by signals; however, commercial trucks are restricted on this route and detour signs are in place. All motorists are encouraged to use the U.S.
