Movie Shot in Triad Now Playing

"The 5th Quarter," which was shot and based in the Triad, is now playing in theatres across the southeast region.

The movie was filmed in Forsyth, Guiford, Davie and Davidson Counties in 2008.

It is based on the true story of Jon Abbate who helped lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to the most successful season in school history.

The victory came after the death of Abbate's 15-year-old brother. Abbate dedicated the season to his brother's memory and changed his jersey number to honor him.

The Piedmont Triad Film Commission helped Director Rick Bieber find local crew, resources and locations so the entire story could be filmed in the region.

The movie stars Ryan Merriman, Aidan Quinn and Andie MacDowell.

Gov. Perdue Wants To Boost Incentives

Gov. Beverly Perdue wants North Carolina lawmakers to up the ante when it comes to luring companies to here.

Perdue said she needs sweeter incentives at her disposal so she can compete financially with surrounding states.

Perdue plans to talk with General Assembly members early next year about boosting her ability to attract companies that will create jobs in the state.

But some critics say her plan maybe a little difficult in a Republican-controlled Legislature next year.

Some GOP lawmakers say better incentives come from lowering the corporate and individual income tax rates and reducing regulation.

The Governor has stated she is willing to examine expanding state-run gambling and privatizing the state liquor system.

These changes could bring extra revenues to the potential $3.7 billion budget gap next year.

Department of Agriculture says don't worry, they are watching out for those trying to keep drivers from getting what they pay for. Complaints about pumps are on the rise.

State officials say the 24 inspectors with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspecting gas pumps statewide are paying close attention. “Complaints about gas pumps have been on the increase in recent weeks,” said Jerry Butler, who oversees the NCDA&CS Standards Division’s gas pump inspection program. “Normally this time of year we get few complaints, but with the rising prices, we have had more calls.”
