Burlington Teen Killed in Accident, Two Injured | News
An accident left one Burlington teenager dead and two others injured Sunday afternoon.
Tiffany Cheyenne Kuplent, 17, of 1347 Long St., was killed after losing control of her vehicle on Highway 62 around 2:30 p.m., said Trooper Ingram with the State Highway Patrol.
Kuplent's neighbor, Robert Pleasants, 21, of 1345 Long St., and Courtney King, 17, of of 7340 NC 62 in Burlington, were both injured while riding in the vehicle.
Kuplent lost control of her 1998 Ford after running off the right side of the road. She went airborne after hitting an embankment and then overturned before crashing into a tree, according to Ingram.
Neither Pleasants nor King had life-threatening injuries and are expected to be released from the hospital soon, said Ingram.
No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, according to Ingram.
The accident at Finch Road and Oakview Loop happened while the three were heading towards Alamance County, less than five miles from the county line.
Investigators believe that Kuplent may have been driving too fast for her ability, according to Ingram.
They are unsure as to whether alcohol or other distractions, such as a cell phone, could have helped cause the accident.
One of the two who were injured was flown to Duke University Hospital by helicopter.
State troopers are investigating the accident.
